The Prayer
Hail Holy Queen
The prayer is a salutation of petition and intercession that expresses spiritual intimacy with Mary. It includes themes such as Mary being the mother of mercy, Christ being the incarnation of God's love and mercy, and Mary giving us life and hope
The Song
The "Hail, Holy Queen," also known as Salve Regina, is a beautiful choral anthem that dates back to the 11th century. Since the 13th century, it has been the final evening prayer in many religious communities. While its exact authorship isn't clearly defined, the Salve was first mentioned in a meditation by Anselm II, Bishop of Lucca, and sometimes mistakenly attributed to Hermannus Contractus of Reichenau.
This powerful prayer is a greeting of petition and intercession, where we call Mary the "Mother of Mercy" because her Son, Jesus Christ, is the embodiment of God's love and mercy. By giving us Christ, she gave all of us hope and life, helping us navigate our struggles in this world. Although the Hail, Holy Queen isnโt part of the rosary, it shares the same spirit of devotion. It holds a special place in the official prayers of the Church, especially in the Liturgy of the Hours, making it even more profound. When sung, it deepens our spiritual connection with Mary, creating a beautiful expression of intimacy and devotion.

In the quietness of meditation, Iโm often reminded of Mary as she listened to the Angel Gabriel, fully present and open to Godโs will. Let these moments of reflection bring you the same peace and connection to the divine.
