I Want to Believe the Podcast – S4 Halloween Special | The Legend of the Screaming Bridge
Music at the top of the episode: “Going Inside” by John Frusciante
Welcome to this special Halloween bonus episode of the I Want to Believe podcast, I’m Nomar Slevik.
Halloween month is finally upon us… and besides my new book coming out and being able to pet kitties on a daily basis, this is probably my favorite part of 2020 so far.
This year has been a bear… but we’re not here for that… this is escapism, and I am fully embracing it. Before we get to info about the episode, I'd like to share that my brand-new book, Granite Skies: A Disconcerted Journey Through the Unknown is NOW AVAILABLE for purchase at The Green Hand Bookshop in Portland, Maine (and online). You can also get it on Amazon, Kindle or a personalized signed copy can be obtained from my online store. Everything can be found at allmylinks.com/slevik. Alright… enough of all that… let’s get into the town of Millinocket, Maine, a young couple, and the Legend of the Screaming Bridge.
It is no secret that Maine is home to scary stories and terrifying tales about creatures in the woods and lights in the sky. But when it comes to ghosts, the stories far outweigh any other type of paranormal phenomena. We have ghosts that occupy old lighthouses, wooded areas, homes too many to count, and of course, haunted roads.
In Millinocket, there is a small section of asphalt and bridge located on Route 11 called Brownville Road. Legend says that a fateful night around the 1940s or 50s changed the history of that location forever.
From the newspaper of the University of Maine at Presque Isle, the University Times wrote, “On their way back from their honeymoon, a young couple were driving down Brownville Road in Millinocket, Maine. The couple’s car swerved off the road for unknown reasons and crashed. The husband suggested for his wife to stay in the car while he went to look for help. But upon his return, she was nowhere to be found.” The husband, friends, family and ultimately the police, could not figure out what happened to the young woman. Well… at least, not until she began haunting the road and nearby bridge. To this day, Millinocket locals claim to see her while driving through the Brownville Road.
Play the episode to hear witness testimony, a brief history of Millinocket, and a personal story that happened to me.
