Three rooms in the "Museum für Kunst und Gewerbe" that you should visit

"No exhibition venue in Hamburg is opening up as fearlessly as the Museum für Kunst und Gewerbe," wrote the weekly newspaper Die Zeit in May 2024.

In fact, the museum right next to Hamburg's main train station continues to cause a sensation:

  • With its exciting, often very unusual exhibitions on famous designers, social issues or cultures from all over the world. You can find the latest information on the museum's website: https://www.mkg-hamburg.de/
  • With the sustainability initiative "Elf zu Null", which ten other Hamburg museums have joined in order to make the city's cultural sector more climate-neutral. Find out more: https://www.mkg-hamburg.de/elf-zu-null
  • With very special rooms: entire ensembles (historic farmhouse parlors, a Japanese teahouse or the Spiegel canteen from the 1960s) are part of the collection and, since 2020, there has been a room on the first floor called "Freiraum" that anyone can use - without paying admission.

    The Museum für Kunst und Gewerbe is located on Steintorplatz in the immediate vicinity of Hamburg Central Station. The museum is open daily except Mondays from 10 am to 6 pm, Thursdays until 9 pm.
