Hamden Catholic Homily: February 1, 2026

Listen Later

Today is February 1, 2026, the 4th Sunday in Ordinary Time. Our celebrants were Fr. Chris Tiano and Deacon Ronald Gurr.

In this homily, Fr. Tiano reflects on our complicated relationship with phones, comfort, and consumerism, and contrasts it with Jesus’ radical message in the Beatitudes. In a world that equates blessing with wealth, power, and the “latest iPhone,” Jesus points us in the opposite direction: toward poverty of spirit, mercy, humility, and our deep need for God.

As Pope Francis reminds us, the Beatitudes are a Christian’s identity card. The question is simple..., and challenging: Do we live by the Beatitudes, or by the world?
