This was a fun and enjoyable read
A business book you can actually read without feeling the need to take notes...
This was a fun and enjoyable read, and a nice break from the more standard business/management books that often offer a deluge of constructs, best practices, lists and other formulaic approaches to being a more effective leader. It is positioned as a business novel but it is very much a case of âchanging the names and places to protect the innocent.â Robâs narrative of his first year as a CEO provides a candid, insightful and humorous glimpse into what it is like to step into the corner office for the first time. There are many useful nuggets that can be gleaned from the book but I found the last sentence of the book to drive home his most important point: âWhen asked what business Iâm in, I always say Iâm in the people business.â A point worth keeping in mind as you read the book â which you should.
Highly recommend for any newly promoted business leader
One of the best business books I've read in a very long time! CEO Paulson is the kind of leader I love to follow and the type I aspire to be. He shares valuable insights about managing people, changing corporate culture, and making and communicating difficult decisions. Paulson's story telling ability--and his considerable wit and humour--make this a surprisingly difficult book to put down. I highly recommend for any newly promoted business leader.
Really innovative way to teach business lessons! Highly recommended.
This is a fascinating book which teaches business lessons as it entertains with a fast paced, gripping narrative. It is a great read for up and coming executives in any field, as the issues that affect the fictional software company, DSI, are issues that affect all corporations; customer expectations, delivery deadlines, Human Resources conundrums, and high stakes business negotiations. Most business books are very dry and devoid of personality, but this one was so humorous and enjoyable that I finished it in one day. I was hooked after the first few pages, which I did not expect. It is also a look behind the curtain at the executive offices which gave me an idea of the kinds of decisions that a CEO makes on a daily basis. Overall, I would highly recommend it to both CEOs and anyone who aspires to be a CEO one day.
When was the last time you picked up a "business book" and couldn't put it down??
Move over Mr. Belichick and Mr. Cowher, my new Coach has arrived! Rob's book is one of the smartest and most insightful books I think I have ever read... I'm new to a CEO role but a pretty seasoned professional; I learned lots and would love to hear more from Rob in the future - hope you are working on "lesson # 2" as we speak... Rob's past career in comedy stands him well in this book on a very serious topic, wish there were more than 5 stars to give him! When was the last time you picked up a "business book" and couldn't put it down?? Long story short - read this book...
Great read for those facing a new leadership challenge!
Terrific read.
