The birthday parties Darisse's Mom threw for her in childhood were epic, and childhood milestones come in rapid fire--"10" is double digits, "13" is when you become a teenager, "16" you can drive a car, "18" you become an adult, and so on. As you get older, though, the milestones become further apart, and less exciting. Who remembers when they turned "25," and you could rent a car? Boring. Darisse and her husband, Jeff, turn 46 within just two weeks of each other, so she talks to him about the fun birthdays they have had in the past together, but how they become less and less exciting as the numbers increase.  Darisse shares a history of birthday celebrations, tracing their origins from ancient religious ceremonies to modern-day traditions like birthday cakes and candles, celebrating children, and giving presents. Darisse provides insight into her own feelings of getting older, especially as she turns "46" on June 13th.
