Mother's Day was established to give honor and encouragement to a vital foundation in the structure of our society. Many times the foundations in any structure can go unnoticed, yet without a solid foundation there would be chaos and collapse.
The amazing effect of a solid, loving upbringing is hidden in Paul's second letter to Timothy and spring forth as godly fruit in the life of this young man. Timothy was able to be a part in the establishment and growth of the first Christian churches in history. Inscribed in God's Word is proof that a mother's influence can continue on into the years and even have a profound effect on a whole culture. Paul wrote to Timothy: "I have been reminded of your sincere faith, which first lived in your grandmother Lois and in your mother Eunice, and I am persuaded, now lives in you" (2 Timothy 2:5).
