Harriet Tubman (c. 1822–1913) was a courageous American abolitionist, humanitarian, and Civil War spy who escaped slavery to become the most renowned "conductor" on the Underground Railroad. She guided approximately 70 enslaved people, including family and friends, to freedom in the North.
