Has poison in Nuttall Park returned? – Episode 93

Listen Later

It’s July already, how did that happen! Despite that fact that July has crept up on me, as I’m sure it has you, it has been good to have a dry weekend. After weather that’s been too hot for my pasty skin and recent weather that’s been too wet (of course I’m never happy, I’m British!) it was good to get out again.

Me and my son went to Nuttall Park where after searching all over for some stones that a local girl had placed. We saw a post on Facebook the other week where she had painted up about 20 small stones and hidden them around Nuttall Park for people to find. I can only say that they must be well hidden because we looked everywhere and couldn’t find one.

We opted for me struggling up the banks of The Irwell (slipped down twice), some scooting around on his balance bike and then some time in the play area.

Is there poison in Nuttall Park?

Some time later we saw a strange sight, a couple carrying their dog at speed back to their car, the dog did not look well at all. It looked to be a pretty young dog, at a guess a Labrador. It was difficult to watch, and I felt helpless just standing there but I knew there wasn’t much I could do, they were only a hundred meters or so from their car.

I’m hoping that this isn’t another poison issue, and I don’t say that out of the blue because there has been an issue with poison in Nuttall Park in the past, I just hope that this is something natural and not malicious.

A little later on in the park on the way home we came across some works happening in Nuttall Park, not the path renovations which is coming along great and is nearly finished infact, but this was repairs to one of the bridges. At first I wondered what was going on, it looked like a scene out of ET with plastic wrapped all around it and a cocoon type structure. If you’d have said there were aliens on the otherside, I’d have nodded and accepted that. Check out the photos below to see what I mean:

I did a bit of research into it and it makes sense now, the website states they are:

• Cocooning/encapsulating the superstructure including all associated scaffolding works with shrink wrap system

Which explains what it is, but why? Looking at the work that is going on, it makes sense as they are over the Irwell and anything they do will drop into the water.

Well done Bury Council, it would easily have been overlooked by someone doing it on the cheap.

One more thing to mention, you’re running out of time to enter the competition to win a pair of tickets for ComedySportz in Ramsbottom Civic Hall. This is totally free to enter and free to attend. I’ve got five pairs of tickets to give away thanks to ComedySportz and Bury Venues.

Ramsbottom United return on Saturday the 8th in a friendly away to Tempest United at 12pm. I believe the league should return on Saturday the 12th of August but I don’t believe this is official.
