Citizens absolutely have a responsibility to be respectful of one another. Using hateful words to hurt or degrade others is a behavior reserved for cowards.
But, when someone does use words we may find hateful, where is our social responsibility to be mentally, emotionally, and spiritually stronger than the offense and the offender?
I believe we are living in a state of increasing fragility in the US. And until we take personal responsibility for how we feel, instead of blaming it on the actions or intents of others, that problem is only going to get bigger.
