Hatuey: The Chief Who Chose Fire Over Conversion

Listen Later

Before the full conquest of the Americas, Hatuey, a Taíno chief and national hero, chose defiance against Spanish rule. Escaping to Cuba, he warned others about the destructive conquistadors.

Captured and facing death, Hatuey was offered conversion. His defiant response became legendary.

This is the tale of a man who rejected submission, choosing to become a symbol of New World resistance.
