Have Great Relationships

1 sam 20 1-4

This is the beginning of a great story between
jonathan and david. David is trying to determine if Saul is still after him and
this is the beginning of the storyIts interesting because it shows the foundations of J
and D relationship. In it, we can see the benefits of good solid relationshipThis applies to your friendships, marriages, church
relationships, parents, kids, anyoneIf you want to have rich meaningful relationships- you
have to have some basic principlesApply these to your life and what what happens-
spoiler alert- jonathan helps DavidHow to have better relationships

Good
relationships are Self reflective “is there any iniquity in me”1 sam 20; Then
David fled from Naioth in Ramah, and went and said to Jonathan, “What have I
done? What is my iniquity, and what is my sin before your father, that he seeks
my life?”Last week we were watching David flee from King Saul-
Saul wanted to kill him- So now- David is trying to determine- Is he still
trying to kill me?Here’s what I love- David starts with “whats wrong
with me” not “why is Saul so evil”The TRUTH is that Saul is Evil- David has done nothing
wrong- but he so desperately wants to honor God with his life- that the
beginning of his process is “let me look at myself” Psalm 139:23 Search me, O God, and know my heart; Try me, and know
my anxieties;Psalm 26:2 Examine me, O Lord, and prove me; Try my mind and my
heart. You can get a lot done in your spiritual life when you
spend time reflecting before God asking him to reveal things to you that you
need to work on- He will tell you- (start
with yourself)David takes it even farther- he asks his friend- give
me some feedback- let me knowWhat David knew what trust is built in relationships
that are truthful- no truth- no loveJob 13:23  How many are
my iniquities and sins? Make me know my transgression and my sin. What does it
mean to youDo you lead a reflective life? Do you ask God and
others if there are areas of your life that need help? Are you laying your life
before God to reveal things that need to be changed?Or do you only look for the fault in others? Jesus saidMatt 7:3 And why do you look at the speck in your brother’s
eye, but do not consider the plank in your own eye?Self reflection is one of the greatest needs of good
relationships and leadership. You have to take a personal inventory of yourself.
(I have a hard time being in the moment)If you never look at your own sin, communication
style, appearance, attitude, its not goodAnd when you
do? BE HONEST WITH YOURSELF- Be brutal assume its you. Luke 18:9-14
 “God
I thank you that I am not like other men”  Romans
12:3 READPeople who think really highly of themselves have a
hard time looking at their faults (I could run
GM- bro- you can’t even run your LIFE)

Good relationships are Encouraging “you shall not die” So David has been being attacked by Saul- He’s been faithful> he’s been serving GodBy all appearances he is doing the right thing living the right way. But still under attackDoes anyone else identify with that? Going through the worst- J didn’t go “let me tell you”NO- Jonathan picks up that he is doing bad- and what does he do? ENCOURAGES HIMProverbs 12:25  Anxiety in the heart of man causes depression,But a good word makes it glad.Jonathan realizes that his friend is hurting and encourages himYou shall not die! You’re going to be king- God is going to do big stuff in your life HOLD ONPro 16:24  Pleasant words are like a honeycomb,
