The World’s First Public Radio Broadcast (1906): Reginald Fessenden made history by transmitting the first public radio broadcast. It included a speech, music, and Bible readings, marking the beginning of modern radio communication.
And speaking of fun, did you know the game of Candy Land was invented by a schoolteacher named Eleanor Abbott while she was recovering from polio? She designed it to entertain children in the hospital. To this day, it remains a family favorite for cozy holiday game nights!
Today is National Fruitcake Day! Love it or hate it, this dense holiday dessert has a long history, dating back to ancient Rome. Packed with dried fruits, nuts, and spices, fruitcake is often the star of Christmas traditions—and the occasional joke. But hey, if you’ve got one sitting around, today’s the perfect time to give it another try!
It’s also a great day to reflect on the Twelve Days of Christmas, which officially started on December 25. December 27 marks the Third Day of Christmas—so if you’re keeping count, this is the day for “three French hens.” Let’s hope no one actually gifts you live birds!
