Hayom Yom 4 Adar 1 - Acquiring a taste for G-dly concepts

The first step in preparing for disciplined meditation,

especially on G‑dly concepts,

requires:

(a) toiling with the flesh to remove one’s pleasurable taste for worldly matters;

(b) toiling with the soul to arouse a pleasurable taste for the contemplation of concepts in general,

and of G‑dly concepts in particular.

Hayom Yom 4 Adar 2 - The Mitteler Rebbe would say Shh, Shh

When the Mitteler Rebbe would deliver discourses of Chassidus, there was utter silence.

Nevertheless, in the midst of his delivery, he would say Shh, Shh.

My father [the Rebbe Rashab] explained

that this was intended to quiet the gushing thoughts of his prolific mind.

With this, my father elucidated the statement of the Zohar:

“The elder’s mind is contained, for it is still and calm.”
