This is the second message in our Advent series for 2018. This year we are allowing Jesus to tell us why he came. Then we are taking what he tells us and connecting it back to the tapestry of the Old Testament that provides the backdrop for his arrival and ministry.
In this teaching, we look at Luke 4:18, where Jesus proclaims that the Lord, "...sent me to proclaim liberty to the captives…” Then we trace the theme of liberation from slavery back to Exodus, where we find God's third advent at Mt. Sinai. Then we watch as God liberates his covenant people from the bonds of their slavery in Egypt. Finally, we see how Jesus was born as the better Moses, as the true head crushing hero, and the leader of a greater exodus than freedom from slavery.
