Listen Later

Nick LaPointe | Episode 1144

Nick LaPointe started throwing pots about 25 years ago at Santa Barbara City College and has been doing pottery ever since. Like many potters, Nick fell in love with the process of throwing and creating handmade art immediately. And about 6 years ago Nick started carving wood grains into his mugs experimenting with designs and ideas, working with other potters on collaborations, and throwing as much as he could! It’s been an amazing journey up to now and he can’t wait to see what the future brings!

How has having a website saved you time?

Well it’s been awesome because when I finish my pieces I can really focus on taking some nice photos. I put them up on my site. There’s less rush involved. I have a schedule, it’s helped me schedule more. I can tell me followers I will have a restock in two weeks and I can get everything all buttoned up on the website.

How has this given you an increased sense of credibility?

I’ve never thought about that. Well, I guess it’s helped out because it shows how many people are interested in my work. Every time I sell a piece I am really and truly grateful and I write notes to every single one of the people who buy my pieces just thanking them because the fact that someone wants to bring one of my pieces into their home to use is something I am touched by. I don’t know about credibility but with every sale I feel like I am doing the right thing. I am on the right track.

It sounded like your marketing has gotten better because now you have a landing page or a common home for your followers to go to. Is that accurate? And can you give me reasons that has been helpful?

That is totally true. In Instagram I show my followers what I am cooking up, ideas that I have been working on, some of the things that have been inspiring me, and the website is directly that. It’s basically the result of every two weeks will wind up on the website for people to take a look at if they want to pick something up.

How do people know how to get on your email list once they are on your website?

Well, it shows it right on the website. You can sign up for any sort of new updates. So a lot of people sign up for my email list. I like to get on the granular level at times and connect often times one to one with followers on Instagram.

Do you send out email s when you have new shop updates?

The email lists, I’ve sent out a bunch. I haven’t been able to do the math behind it if there’s been a percentage increase because of email blasts getting sent out. I’ve done it on previous sales and I think a lot of the people I am emailing are people that follow me on Instagram.

Now that you have a website up have you changed your mind? Is it better for your business?

One thousand percent. One thousand percent. I would say back in 2020 when we spoke last I was kind of up to my knees, I had just started selling pieces a year prior but now that I’ve got the website it’s created that landing page.
