This idea of trying to get the benefits of a relationship without committing to it is nothing new. Jesus encountered this selfish mentality in the first century. From the beginning people have sought God for what they believe He has to offer them rather than for who He is. This is especially apparent in tonight’s passage. We have already seen Jesus’ claims to be the Door, the Good Shepherd, the Resurrection and the Life, the Way, the Truth, and the Life, and the True Vine. We will see him call himself the Bread of Life and meet a bunch of people who thought, “why buy the Savior, when I can get the bread for free?”
After feeding 5,000 folks and walking on water, he had drawn quite a crowd. They pursued him even when he tried to leave the area. When they finally caught up with him, he confronted them about their self-focused intentions for him. They asked him for bread that they could receive forever. He told them simply, I am that bread, the bread of life. In this passage we will see 2 key ingredients that make Jesus the bread of life for us.
Big Idea: 2 Key Ingredients that make Jesus the bread of life for us. (John 6:34-51)
