Matthew 1:18-25
Big Idea: He is Savior.
"What child is this...?" the old hymn goes. Matthew's answer is simple, "He is Savior." The angel told Joseph that Mary will have a son and he is to name him Jesus, for he will save his people from their sins. This passage teaches us that we are a people in need of saving. Saving from what? Saving from our sins. It is only when we acknowledge the problem of our sin that the presence of a Savior becomes such good news. Then when we have met this precious Savior the question remains, what will we do with him? What we learn from Joseph is that there is power in surrender.
