We just finished a sermon series about wisdom parents share with their children. This week we are going to turn the tables and consider a thing or two that children tell their parents"or at least each other. Have you ever had the experience of asking one of your children to run an errand for you, or borrow something from a neighbor? You explain to them in great detail why you need exactly what it is you need for them to get for you. But when they get to the store or get your neighbor to open the front door, they have no clue what they are there to get, let alone why they need it. The stranger the item they need to buy or borrow, the more likely they are to be asked why youve sent them on the errand. Nine times out of ten the answer is simple: I dunno. She said she needs it. He said thats what he wanted. Something very similar happens in todays scripture. Were going to ask whether, He said He needs it is a good enough reason to give someone what theyre asking for.
