In this passage John makes a very strong statement: “He who has the Son has life; He who does not have the Son does not have life.” Without faith in the Son of God, no one can have eternal life. How can Christians hold on to such an exclusive statement without being (or coming across as) arrogant toward those of other faiths? In this lesson we explore that challenge, and learn from the inspiring example of Bishop Timothy, a bishop of the Church of the East in Iraq, c. 800 AD, in a respectful exchange with the Muslim caliph.
