Are we headed towards silence

where two souls become islands

with nothing loud, nothing violent

just no longer reliant on each other

all vocals quietly smothered

as I walk away and you stay

to where distance will offer us

nothing left to say anyway….

What brought us to this point

that seems so pointless

we could’ve just talked it out

but we both decided

that enough had been said

that what we loved was now dead

as we both head toward the silence

that rivals the quiet that

one finds in a grave

that holds love left unsaved.

and out there everywhere

are a silent majority

so many like you and me

who chose to just let it be

uncoupled from the tracks of tears

or cruel remarks and Jeers

they just slipped soundlessly

away to a vanishing point

all headed towards silence……..

Can “I do” become undone

to “I don’t” any more

is it really that easy

to walk out the door

closing it oh, so gently

after writing a note

an epitaph to failure

that would leave

one heart broke

with no chance for speaking

although words would be bleeding’

into long unsung songs

as the other just headed

from where two once were bedded

towards the silence

that beckons them

without any sound

to simply not turn around

walking requires no talking

One footstep…. then two

when you know love is through

silence follows you

as it echoes so hollow

in two hearts now both left fallow

each heading straight towards silence

forevermore…..

yes we’re headed towards silence

where we’ll both be islands

on two distant shores
