Comic book fans are having an unforgettable week as the pulse of the industry beats strongest in San Diego, where San Diego Comic-Con 2025 is unleashing a torrent of headline-grabbing news. From superhero team-ups never thought possible to landmark anniversaries and bold new series, July has rocketed comic books back into the cultural spotlight.

The show floor at SDCC is abuzz, and Marvel is at the epicenter. One of the weekend’s biggest draws is the global debut of The Fantastic Four: First Steps, celebrated through immersive booth experiences replicating retro-futuristic Marvel locations like Times Square and Yancy Street. But film isn’t overshadowing comics—Marvel’s panels have dropped news sure to thrill both digital and paper loyalists, including demos, game tie-ins, and exclusive comic previews.

A crossover once thought impossible is reality: Marvel/DC: Deadpool/Batman #1 lands in September, joining the Merc with a Mouth and the Dark Knight for a one-shot written by a powerhouse team—Zeb Wells, Kevin Smith, Kelly Thompson, Chip Zdarsky, Al Ewing, and Frank Miller. The excitement doesn't stop there. The issue also features stories mashing up Rocket Raccoon with Green Lantern and Wolverine (Old Man Logan) with Batman as envisioned by Miller. These creative pairings are set to explode the boundaries of both universes.

Not to be outdone on the crossover front, Captain America is being catapulted into the world of Alien for a chilling four-issue series, Alien Vs. Captain America, beginning in November. Set against the chaos of World War II, the story puts Steve Rogers and his Howling Commandos up against the Xenomorphs, with Hydra weaponizing the infamous creatures in a desperate bid to win the war. The collision of heroics and horror promises surprises and a fresh blend of two iconic franchises.

Classic characters are also roaring back. Werewolf by Night: Blood Moon Rise #1 arrives July 31, penned by Michael Giacchino, director of the Marvel Studios special. This story throws Jack Russell, the tortured Marvel werewolf, against Dracula himself, embracing fifty years of spooky legacy with new art and haunting backup tales. The issue acts as both a love letter to horror comics and a launchpad for nightmares.

Elsewhere, Marvel is rolling out major teases: they’re closing out the One World Under Doom storyline and hinting at a new Sorcerer Supreme. Ultimate Spider-Man #19 also drops this week, ensuring the webslinger’s saga continues to command attention.

This SDCC has also spotlighted collectible showstoppers, variant covers, and cross-medium surprises—Robert Kirkman announced the relaunch of Invincible Universe’s Capes, and John Byrne’s X-Men: Elsewhen is officially returning. Even Venom is sporting a red-and-blue Spider-Man costume in Venom #252, shocking longtime symbiote followers.

From major creative team announcements to wild crossovers and resurrection of fan favorite series, Comic-Con 2025’s first days have reignited excitement and speculation. Whether you’re hunting down variant covers, lining up for panels, or following the news from afar, it’s a golden moment for comic book characters both classic and new.
