In this reflective and gently hypnotic episode, I explore the nature of joy — not as a fleeting emotional high, but as something deeper, quieter, and more enduring.
Recorded in an uncrowded area of Zion National Park along the Kolob Canyons Fork of Taylor Creek, this session unfolds in two parts. First, I explore the difference between spontaneous joy — those intense, euphoric moments that arrive unexpectedly — and background joy, a more subtle, ever-present sense of contentment and connection that can quietly underpin everyday life.
We look at how both forms of joy share a common essence: a softening of ego, a loosening of identity, and a felt sense of connection with something larger than ourselves. When we step out of the stories we tell about who we are, joy often emerges naturally — not as something to chase, but as something to notice.
Joy doesn’t require extraordinary circumstances. While this recording takes place in a beautiful natural setting, the insights here point to how joy can arise just as readily in ordinary moments — through presence, curiosity, and openness to experience.
In the second half of the episode, I guide you into a gentle, semi-hypnotic experience designed to help you sense and reconnect with this background joy — not by effort or technique, but by allowing what’s already there to come into awareness.
This is not a step-by-step formula for happiness. It’s an invitation to explore joy in your own way, on your own terms — and to discover how it can quietly unfurl when resistance softens.
⚠️ Safety note:
This recording includes a hypnotic induction. Only listen when you can safely give it your full attention. Do not listen while driving or operating machinery.
