READ TOGETHER:

John 9:1-39

DISCUSS:

• How do our sins affect us physically or emotionally? How do our sins affect others? Why had the man in John 9:1 been born blind? What limitations has God used in your life for His glory?
• Why did Jesus send the blind man to the Pool of Siloam? Why would that have been a difficult journey for the blind man? Discuss why gaining “spiritual sight” can sometimes be a long, difficult journey?   
• On the surface, this is a story about Jesus healing a man’s physical blindness, but Jesus uses the physical healing to address spiritual blindness. What are some of the signs from the story that demonstrate that the Pharisees were spiritually blind? From what “blindness” has God healed you?
• The Pharisees initially want to know exactly what Jesus did to heal the blind man. Once the blind man identified Jesus as “a prophet,” how did their line of questioning change?
• As the story unfolds, how do the man’s references to Jesus indicate that his faith is growing? What does this statement from Jesus mean in verse 39 - “For judgment I came into this world, that those who do not see may see, and those who see may become blind.”

PRAY:

• Pray that God will be glorified through the weaknesses and limitations in your life.

PRACTICE (on your own):

1. Our weakness should lead us the Light of the World.
2. Identify Weaknesses: In many cases, those who are well and healthy are the ones who don’t see the need for God. Identify the weaknesses or limitations that you may have.
3. Dedicate Your Weaknesses to God: Our weaknesses are more likely to lead us to acknowledge our need for God. Dedicate your weaknesses to God that He may be glorified through all things.
4. Praise God for Healing: God will heal us according to His purpose. God did not promise us a life free of worries and troubles. But He did promise that we would be healed either in the life or in eternity yet to come. Praise Him!

• As followers of Christ, we see with “spiritual” eyes. We walk by faith, not by sight.
