A 2026 study of 458,332 adults linked muscle loss to 34% higher infection risk — with an honest look at what observational research can and can't prove. Full video on YouTube: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=5axT1grbJ_o — Podcast version also on Spotify. Not medical advice.
A 2026 prospective study (Nagata et al., Geriatrics & Gerontology International) tracked 5,074 Japanese adults aged 65+ for four years. Strength exercise was linked to 74% lower dementia risk versus non-exercisers, while walking, calisthenics, and golf showed no significant difference. This was an observational study, not a trial. Two major studies published in September 2026 put new numbers on ultra-processed food. One modeled that around 150,000 diet-related deaths a year could be delayed if food companies shifted sales toward healthier products they already make. The other — a pooled analysis of 51 studies covering nearly 8.8 million adults — linked heavier ultra-processed eating to higher risks of heart disease, cancer, obesity, diabetes, depression, and early death.
In this episode: what "ultra-processed" actually means (the NOVA scale), what both studies found and what they didn't, why the evidence is observational, why it matters more after 40, the industry-vs-personal-choice debate, and a 30-second label check with simple swaps.
In this episode:
- The 150,000-deaths headline (0:00)
- What "ultra-processed" actually means (0:21)
- The study: what was modeled (1:54)
- What 8.8 million people revealed (3:24)
- Why it matters more after 40 (5:39)
- The debate: companies vs shoppers (6:29)
- The 30-second label check + swaps (7:22)
- Recap and what's next (8:29)
A note on the numbers: the 150,000 figure is a modeled estimate (deaths that could be delayed), not a count of observed deaths. The 8.8-million-person analysis is observational: association, not proof of cause.

For more than 20 years, a black-box warning shaped by the 2002 Women's Health Initiative kept millions of women away from menopause hormone therapy. In November 2025, the FDA announced it would remove those warnings — and in February 2026, the label change became final.
In this episode we walk through exactly what changed and what didn't: the WHI numbers in context, the warnings that were removed, the one warning that stayed, the timing window (under 60 or within 10 years of menopause onset), and the new options — the first generic conjugated estrogens in 30+ years and Lynkuet (elinzanetant), the non-hormonal therapy approved October 2025. We also cover the September 2026 SWAN analysis honestly: observational data, and why the authors say it should not guide clinical practice.
In this episode:
- The black box that scared a generation (0:00)
- The 2002 WHI trial and the numbers that terrified everyone (1:02)
- How the fear spread — and prescriptions collapsed (2:03)
- The FDA panel and the label change (3:37)
- Three warnings removed; the one that stayed (4:01)
- The timing window (5:30)
- Myths: what hormone therapy doesn't do (6:23)
- The September 2026 SWAN study (6:51)
- New options: first generic in 30+ years, Lynkuet (7:10)

Testosterone isn't just a male hormone — women make it too. But prescriptions for women jumped 146% while the evidence hasn't kept up. On September 17, 2026, the FDA brought researchers, clinicians, and patients together for a public workshop on testosterone use in menopausal women. This episode breaks down what the meeting actually revealed: where the evidence is strongest, why a blood test can't diagnose the condition, the product problem behind off-label dosing, and what we still don't know about long-term safety.
In this episode:
- The 146% surge nobody can explain away (0:00)
- Why the FDA meeting matters (0:48)
- Where the evidence is strongest (1:26)
- The blood-test problem (2:38)
- The product problem (4:04)
- Long-term safety: what we don't know (5:15)
- What the meeting actually changed (6:29)
- What to do with all this (7:19)

Eleven randomized trials. Nearly three decades of research. One 2026 meta-analysis (Yao et al., Frontiers in Nutrition) pooled every high-quality trial of creatine plus resistance training in adults over 60 — and the answer splits the sales pitch in half.
In this episode:
- Why muscle loss after 60 matters more than most people think (0:43)
- How creatine actually works inside the muscle cell (2:53)
- What the 11 trials found: strength, muscle mass, and everyday function (4:18)
- Where the uncertainty sits — and who these results don't cover (9:32)
- What a reasonable person over 60 should actually do (11:41)
Bottom line: creatine plus training produced a small, real strength edge versus training alone in generally healthy adults over 60. It did not reliably increase muscle mass or improve everyday physical function in this analysis. The training is the main event; the supplement is at best a small add-on.
