Cleidocranial dysplasia (CCD) is a rare genetic condition that affects how bones and teeth grow, especially the skull, collarbones, and jaw. While research has been limited, it has recently been more discussed with help from “Stranger Things” star Gaten Matarazzo. It is one of the most rare genetic conditions that someone can have, with one in a million people having CCD.
In today’s episode of Health 411, Dr. Jonathan Karp and student producer Jacob Rodriguez discuss CCD, using Jacob’s personal ties with the condition as a starting point for the conversation. They also discuss the origins of the condition, how its impact and awareness has been changed for the better with the help of Matarazzo, and the myths that have been associated with the condition.
Tune in to this week’s episode of Health 411 to learn more about cleidocranial dysplasia, the new awareness of the condition, and how, despite myths, it doesn’t stop people from achieving anything.
