Since October 2022, there has been an outbreak of measles in South Africa and to date, it has affected five provinces. The most common symptoms of the virus are fever and a rash. The virus can cause severe complications like encephalitis, blindness, diarrhoea and dehydration. It can be fatal for infants under two years of age are most at risk.
As schools have reopened throughout the country, it does put children at a higher risk due to contagiousness of the virus. Our next guest is urging parents to get their children vaccinated as the Department of Health kicks off a vaccination campaign.
