The NHS is a big, big institution. It's a massive network of hospitals and clinics that provide care to over 1 million patients every day. So it's no surprise that HealthTech has been slow to catch on in the UK.
The NHS is huge and complicated, but its size isn't the only thing slowing down adoption of HealthTech. It also has a long history of being resistant to change—and there are some good reasons for that resistance. The NHS was founded in 1948 as part of a socialized healthcare system that sought to treat everyone equally regardless of their ability to pay for medical services. That means the NHS has always been focused on providing treatments and medications for patients without worrying about how much money they had or whether or not they were insured.
In recent years, however, HealthTech companies have started to introduce new models into healthcare that could revolutionize how we deliver care in England and Wales—and we're seeing more and more ways technology can help us provide better care at lower costs than ever before!
The NHS is one of the most important and well-known healthcare systems in the world. But it's also one of the most overburdened and underfunded. With a budget that's only set to increase by a mere 0.4% in 2020, it's clear that the NHS needs to find new ways to innovate—and fast.
HealthTech companies are stepping up to fill this gap. By providing tools, apps, and other technologies that help improve patient care and streamline operations, HealthTech companies can help transform an industry that has been slow to change.
But how exactly will HealthTech help? Here are three ways HealthTech can transform the NHS:
- Improve efficiency with better technology
- Increase access for patients
- Foster innovation within the healthcare system
The health and social care industry is growing at a rate of 7.5% per year, which is faster than any other sector in the UK economy.
It's no wonder, then, that there's so much talk about innovation and new technologies in the NHS—and it's not just talk! The NHS has been working on digitizing its services for years now, and has made significant progress.
The scope of this work ranges from simple things like using digital forms instead of paper ones, all the way up to creating a national computer system for storing patient data (aka "the patient record"). This will allow doctors to access information about their patients quickly and easily from anywhere in the country.
But what exactly does this mean for patients? It means that your doctor or nurse can have all your information on hand—and so can any other doctor or nurse who needs it! Once again: convenience!
And not only that—digitization also allows doctors to monitor their patients' health remotely by collecting data through sensors placed on their bodies or via smartphones. And they can do this while they're still in their offices! This is great because it means fewer trips to the hospital when you're feeling fine but need a checkup anyway.
