HEAR Journaling - Genesis 12

Highlight - Genesis 12:1-6 New Living Translation

1The Lord had said to Abram, “Leave your native country, your relatives, and your father’s family, and go to the land that I will show you. I will make you into a great nation. I will bless you and make you famous, and you will be a blessing to others. I will bless those who bless you and curse those who treat you with contempt. All the families on earth will be blessed through you.” So Abram departed as the Lord had instructed, and Lot went with him. Abram was seventy-five years old when he left Haran. He took his wife, Sarai, his nephew Lot, and all his wealth—his livestock and all the people he had taken into his household at Haran—and headed for the land of Canaan. When they arrived in Canaan, Abram traveled through the land as far as Shechem. There he set up camp beside the oak of Moreh. At that time, the area was inhabited by Canaanites.

Explain – The Lord directed Abram to leave his native country, to take everything he owned to a land that God would show him.  Abram did as the Lord instructed even though he was seventy-five years old.

Apply – Can you imagine if God had called you at seventy-five years old to pack up everything and move to a land, a place you do not know, but to follow the Lord’s direction completely?  Would we be as faithful and obedient as Abram?  Think now, what has the Lord asked you to do?  Do you know, do you remember?  Perhaps it is time to seek the Lord again and ask Him what He would have us do.  He may not require you to pack up and move to Canaan, but He certainly has something for you to do.  Find out what it is and faithfully and obediently follow His direction.  You will never be more satisfied than when you are in the middle of the Lord’s will.

Psalm 25:4-5 ESV Make me to know your ways, O Lord; teach me your paths. Lead me in your truth and teach me, for you are the God of my salvation; for you I wait all the day long.

James 1:5 ESV If any of you lacks wisdom, let him ask God, who gives generously to all without reproach, and it will be given him.

Psalm 16:7-8 ESV I bless the Lord who gives me counsel; in the night also my heart instructs me.[dI have set the Lord always before me; because he is at my right hand, I shall not be shaken.

Proverbs 3:5-6 ESV Trust in the Lord with all your heart, and do not lean on your own understanding. In all your ways acknowledge him, and he will make straight your paths.

Psalm 32:8-9 ESV I will instruct you and teach you in the way you should go; I will counsel you with my eye upon you. Be not like a horse or a mule, without understanding, which must be curbed with bit and bridle, or it will not stay near you.

John 16:13 ESV

Respond - Lord, thank You for my life, for my salvation.  I seek to abide in You as You abide in me following You faithfully and obediently. Show me Your way Lord.  I pray for those that do not know You, that they come to You, in Jesus name.  Amen.
