Highlight Genesis 21:1-7 New Living Translation
The Birth of Isaac
21 The Lord kept his word and did for Sarah exactly what he had promised. 2 She became pregnant, and she gave birth to a son for Abraham in his old age. This happened at just the time God had said it would. 3 And Abraham named their son Isaac. 4 Eight days after Isaac was born, Abraham circumcised him as God had commanded.5 Abraham was 100 years old when Isaac was born. 6 And Sarah declared, “God has brought me laughter.[a] All who hear about this will laugh with me. 7 Who would have said to Abraham that Sarah would nurse a baby? Yet I have given Abraham a son in his old age!”
Explain – The Lord fulfilled His promise to Abraham and Sarah and Isaac was born when Abraham was 100 years old, and Sarah was 90. Sarah remembered that she had laughed at the angels when they told Abraham that Sarah would give birth in a year, and the fact that it had come to fruition.
Apply – We too can learn to believe and trust the Lord with all our heart, soul, mind, and strength. He will never leave us no forsake us. The only person that can affect our relationship with the Lord is ourselves. We must resist all temptation to stray from our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ and remain steadfast to follow Him faithfully and obediently through eternity.
1 John 2:24-25 ESV Let what you heard from the beginning abide in you. If what you heard from the beginning abides in you, then you too will abide in the Son and in the Father. And this is the promise that he made to us—eternal life.
Hebrews 5:14 ESV But solid food is for the mature, for those who have their powers of discernment trained by constant practice to distinguish good from evil.
2 Peter 1:10 ESV Therefore, brothers, be all the more diligent to confirm your calling and election, for if you practice these qualities you will never fall.
Deuteronomy 30:15-16 ESV “See, I have set before you today life and good, death and evil. If you obey the commandments of the Lord your God that I command you today, by loving the Lord your God, by walking in his ways, and by keeping his commandments and his statutes and his rules, then you shall live and multiply, and the Lord your God will bless you in the land that you are entering to take possession of it.
2 Timothy 4:7 ESV I have fought the good fight, I have finished the race, I have kept the faith.
Respond – Lord, thank You for Your Truth. Help me Lord to remain steadfast in my faith and obedience with You, to follow You through eternity without wavering. I pray for all that they may know You as Lord and Savior. Amen.
