Highlight – Genesis 44:30-34 New Living Translation

Judah Speaks for His Brothers

30 “And now, my lord, I cannot go back to my father without the boy. Our father’s life is bound up in the boy’s life.31 If he sees that the boy is not with us, our father will die. We, your servants, will indeed be responsible for sending that grieving, white-haired man to his grave. 32 My lord, I guaranteed to my father that I would take care of the boy. I told him, ‘If I don’t bring him back to you, I will bear the blame forever.’ 33 “So please, my lord, let me stay here as a slave instead of the boy, and let the boy return with his brothers. 34 For how can I return to my father if the boy is not with me? I couldn’t bear to see the anguish this would cause my father!”

 

Explain – Judah spoke to the pharaoh leader not knowing it was his brother Joseph. Judah explained that the brothers were all offering themselves up as slaves to save their brother Benjamin from slavery, to guard the heart of their father Jacob.  This is quite a contrast of the very same brothers that sold Joseph into slavery with no regard for their father at all.  

 

Apply - Unrepented sin is a burden to carry.  There is no need to carry it as Jesus is waiting on us to confess our sin and accept His forgiveness.  We can also make restitution and ask for forgiveness where possible so that God can restore broken relationships.  How wonderful it is to live in forgiveness and peace!

 

Matthew 5:23-24 ESV So if you are offering your gift at the altar and there remember that your brother has something against you, leave your gift there before the altar and go. First be reconciled to your brother, and then come and offer your gift.

 

Romans 15:5-6 ESV May the God of endurance and encouragement grant you to live in such harmony with one another, in accord with Christ Jesus, that together you may with one voice glorify the God and Father of our Lord Jesus Christ.

 

Matthew 18:15 ESV “If your brother sins against you, go and tell him his fault, between you and him alone. If he listens to you, you have gained your brother. 

 

1 Peter 5:10 ESV And after you have suffered a little while, the God of all grace, who has called you to his eternal glory in Christ, will himself restore, confirm, strengthen, and establish you.

Respond – Lord, thank You for setting me free of my past sins and making it possible to live a righteous life through You, Holy Spirit. Show me Lord if there are any reconciliations that I need to do.  Help me Lord to make restitution where possible, humbly, and successfully.  I strive to abide in You and with You, following You faithfully and obediently forever.  I pray for those that are in bondage to sin that they will yield to Your persistent draw to make them free.  Amen.
