Highlight: Proverbs 17 New Life Version
6 Grandchildren are the pride and joy of old men and a son is proud of his father.
…10 A man of understanding learns more from being told the right thing to do than a fool learns from being beaten a hundred times.
…15 He who says that the sinful are right, and he who says those who do right are wrong, both are hated by the Lord.
…19 He who loves sin loves making trouble. He who opens his door wide for trouble is looking for a way to be destroyed.
…22 A glad heart is good medicine, but a broken spirit dries up the bones.
…24 Wisdom is with the one who has understanding, but the eyes of a fool are on the ends of the earth.
…27 He who is careful in what he says has much learning, and he who has a quiet spirit is a man of understanding.
Explain - Proverbs 17 contains much wisdom. Being a proud Papa I had to include verse 6, “Grandchildren are the pride and joy of old men, and a son is proud of his father.” I know my grandsons are proud of their fathers as I am proud of them all. This remaining sampling of verses include some special wisdom:
· A man of understanding learns more from being told than a fool learns from being beaten.
· Those saying bad is good and good is bad are hated by God.
· Loving sin is making a way for trouble. A glad heart (from being filled with the Holy Spirit and abiding in Him) is good medicine.
· Wisdom is derived from God’s understanding.
· Be careful what you say, have a quiet spirit, and learn much.
Apply – We should apply God’s wisdom, knowledge, understanding, and instruction to our lives by first accepting Him as Lord and Savior, then being filled by the Holy Spirit and strive to abide in Him as He abides in us. He will lead us unto all Truth as we seek Him daily, consistently, and continuously.
Respond – Lord , I strive to apply Your wisdom, knowledge, understanding, and instruction to my life, by first recommitting myself to You, accepting You as Lord and Savior. I am indwelt by You, Holy Spirit, and I strive to abide in You as You abide in me. I am eager to follow You as You lead me unto all Truth as I seek You daily, consistently, and continuously.
