HEAR Journaling Proverbs Chapter 18
The Book of Wisdom
Highlight - Proverbs 18 New Living Translation
4 Wise words are like deep waters; wisdom flows from the wise like a bubbling brook.
…10 The name of the Lord is a strong fortress; the godly run to him and are safe.
…12 Haughtiness goes before destruction; humility precedes honor.
…15 Intelligent people are always ready to learn. Their ears are open for knowledge.
…19 An offended friend is harder to win back than a fortified city. Arguments separate friends like a gate locked with bars.
…20 Wise words satisfy like a good meal; the right words bring satisfaction.
…21 The tongue can bring death or life; those who love to talk will reap the consequences.
22 The man who finds a wife finds a treasure, and he receives favor from the Lord.
…24 There are “friends” who destroy each other, but a real friend sticks closer than a brother.
Explain – Wise guidance from Proverbs Chapter 18, much focused on the power of words to build up or destroy. God provides a strong fortress for anyone that will yield to Him. Intelligent people will learn. Arguments cause division, we must yield to the Lord to be able to maintain strong friendships.
Apply – We must maintain a strong relationship with the Lord to have control over our tongues and attitudes which will provide relationships with our spouse, friends and everyone that are filled with the fruit of the spirit:
22 But the fruit of the Spirit is love, joy, peace, patience, kindness, goodness, faithfulness, 23 gentleness, self-control; against such things there is no law.
Galatians 5:22-23 English Standard Version
Respond – Lord, I strive to abide in You as You abide in me. Help me to be all that I can be in You to produce the fruit of Your Spirit.
