What happens when something we know so well becomes something we no longer appreciate?

In this episode of Heart Check Podcast, Pastor Los continues through the Gospel of John in John 4:39–54, picking up right after Jesus’ encounter with the Samaritan woman.

The Samaritan woman encounters Jesus, realizes that He truly knows her and loves her, and immediately runs to tell others about Him. The people of her town eventually encounter Jesus for themselves and declare that He is “the Savior of the world.”

But when Jesus returns to Galilee, we’re reminded that familiarity can sometimes keep us from recognizing who Jesus truly is. And if we’re not careful, the same thing can happen to us.

We can grow up hearing the Gospel, going to church, reading our Bibles, and talking about Jesus so often that we allow the greatest story ever told to become just another story. Jesus can become so familiar that we lose our awe, our reverence, and our hunger for Him.

In this episode, we talk about:

• Jesus knows you—and He loves you.
• The Gospel is for everyone.
• Your testimony can point people toward Jesus.
• Don’t get discouraged when someone doesn’t immediately believe.

The question for all of us is simple:

Have I become too familiar with Jesus?

Jesus isn’t just another person. He isn’t just a Sunday morning routine. He isn’t just someone we run to when we need a miracle.

He is the Savior of the world. He is our Lord. He is our King. And He is worthy of our first and our best.

My prayer is that we would never let the Gospel become mundane, but that every day we would encounter Jesus with fresh awe, surrender, and worship.

What happens when Jesus meets you in the middle of your brokenness—and knows everything about you?

In John 4, Jesus intentionally travels through Samaria—a place most Jewish people would avoid—and begins a conversation with a Samaritan woman. She was an outsider. She was carrying a complicated past. She was trying to avoid people.

But Jesus was waiting for her.

“But those who drink the water I give will never be thirsty again. It becomes a fresh, bubbling spring within them, giving them eternal life.” — John 4:14 (NLT)

This woman came to the well looking for physical water, but Jesus offered her something so much greater: Living Water.

Throughout their conversation, Jesus doesn't ignore her past or avoid the truth about her life. He brings it into the light. Not to shame her. Not to condemn her. But to reveal who He is and what He came to do.

Jesus meets us where we are, but He loves us too much to leave us there.

Pastor Los breaks down the powerful cultural and biblical context behind this story and explores what it means to truly be satisfied in Jesus. Because the truth is, we can keep going back to the wells of this world—relationships, success, sex, money, validation, and temporary pleasures—but eventually, we will become thirsty again.

Only Jesus can satisfy the deepest thirst of our souls.

This episode also dives into Jesus' call to worship the Father in Spirit and in truth. We don't have to choose between the truth of God's Word and the power of the Holy Spirit.

We need both.

And after the Samaritan woman encounters Jesus, everything changes. She leaves her water jar behind and runs back to her village to tell everyone about the man who knew everything she had ever done.

That's what happens when you truly encounter Jesus. You can't keep the Good News to yourself.

Jesus reminds His disciples that the fields are already ripe for harvest, and we have the opportunity to participate in God's mission by sharing the Gospel, making disciples, and helping people come to know Him.

The Samaritan woman came to the well carrying her past. But she left knowing the Messiah.

What are you continuing to go back to for satisfaction that only Jesus can truly provide? And are you willing to let Jesus speak truth into the areas of my life that need healing, repentance, and transformation?

Jesus knows everything about you.
Jesus sees every part of your story.
And He still invites you to come to Him.

What happens when we stop making it about us and start making it all about Jesus?

John the Baptist’s disciples were concerned because more people were following Jesus than John. But John understood something that every follower of Jesus—and especially every Christian leader—needs to remember: the goal was never to build our platform. The goal is to point people to Jesus.

Pastor Los gets real about his own journey into ministry, wrestling with feelings of inadequacy, his past, his failures, and the question, “Who am I to do this?” Through 1 Corinthians 1:26–31, we’re reminded that God doesn’t call us because we have everything figured out. He chooses ordinary, unlikely, and imperfect people so that He gets the glory.

This episode is a reminder that “less of me” doesn’t mean thinking less of yourself. It means recognizing who lives inside of you.

The power isn’t in our strength, our intelligence, our abilities, our platform, or our accomplishments.

It’s Jesus in us.

At first glance, the sixth commandment seems pretty straightforward. Most of us hear it and think, “Well, I haven't murdered anybody, so I'm good.”

But when Jesus teaches on this commandment in Matthew 5, He raises the bar. Jesus shows us that God isn't only concerned with our outward actions—He's concerned with what's happening inside our hearts.
