Heart Posture | Matt Beasley

Listen Later

Ephesians 2:11–13 — "Remember… you were without hope and without God" — and then, "brought near by the blood of Christ." Lead Pastor Matt Beasley continues A Study Through Ephesians at Severns Valley.

Paul tells the Gentiles to remember who they once were — outside the covenant, without the promise, without hope. We're prone to set our hope on flimsier things — ourselves, a spouse, a child — and to drift until we don't recognize where we are. But the whisper that you've wandered too far is just that: a lie.

A few things to carry into your week:

- Remembering who we were keeps grace from going stale.
- When the chips are down we'll anchor our hope to almost anything — our grit, our people — and it always comes up short.
- "You've taken yourself too far from God" is a lie; you are not so lost that you can't be found.
- Seeing your own waywardness is itself grace at work — the Spirit drawing a wayward child home, again and again.

"Where have you quietly set your hope on something other than Christ?"
