The Creative Brink Podcast

(he)Art Work with Robin J.

Listen Later

In this episode, LaTecia discusses how creators can protect themselves in the digital age and sits down with guest, Robin J. of Indie Creator Society, to explore Robin's experience and journey as a creative entrepreneur.

Starting as a brand strategist and editor, Robin J. has spent her career as an advocate for creative talents and entrepreneurs from the walls of record labels to media organizations. For four years, her music discovery platform The TakeOvah filled the void of quality press for emerging artists as mainstream musicians dominated the airwaves and most large publications.

Expanding her scope to tech, Robin transitioned to live programming to continue her mission of building pathways to success for creatives, this time working on amplifying a cross-functional creative workforce. While working for rideshare giant Uber, she recognized a unique opportunity for career creatives to pivot into or leverage tech companies for their own businesses, without the need for technical degrees or spending thousands of dollars. Her newest work Creator Week (under her creative community Indie Creator Society), is a free, 3 evening conference that opened doors to 500 creative entrepreneurs of color looking to transition into tech, entertainment or sustain scalable entrepreneurship. The 1st installment of the conference was featured in Forbes and dubbed a conference to watch. By day, Robin is a Creative Resource Manager at Apple, helping to manage the creative talents at the powerhouse company.
