Hebrews 1 Discussion

A whole chapter about angels, and the punchline is Jesus. Hebrews 1 does not invite curiosity about the spiritual realm for its own sake; it uses angels as a backdrop to spotlight the unmatched glory, authority, and identity of the Son of God.

We take Hebrews chapter one line by line using a simple Bible study method: outline, observe, interpret, and apply. Along the way we unpack the opening claim that God spoke through the prophets “long ago,” but now speaks “in these last days” through His Son. We sit with the dense, beautiful descriptions of Jesus as heir of all things, creator of the world, the radiance of God’s glory, and the exact imprint of God’s nature. If you’ve ever wondered how Hebrews supports a high view of Christ and the Trinity, this chapter is a foundation.

From there we dig into the letter’s heavy emphasis on angels and why that mattered in the first place, including the background of robust angelology in Second Temple Judaism. We also tackle the meaning of “begotten” in Hebrews 1 and why “begotten not made” is so important, especially when modern claims reduce Jesus to a created being. Then we bring it home: humans need God to speak, we need salvation, and the right response to the Son is worship, loving righteousness, and hating wickedness.
