This passage has reminded us that we all partake in humanity and take part in the things of the world. The question before us is which humanity we are part of; that which belongs to Adam or that which belongs to Christ? Which world are we living in; the one which has passed away or the one which continues to be raised up? Sin brought shame and dishonour, putting us lower than the angels. But redemption crowns us with honour and glory, uniting us to Christ as He puts everything in subjection under His feet. While we wait to see the conditions on the ground to match what is in heaven, we labour and persevere and endure suffering, knowing that this was the path that Christ Himself blazed for us. He tasted death so that a new humanity can be raised to eternal life. Where is your serpent to crush? Where do you see ground to be taken for Christ? In Christ Jesus, the victory already belongs to us.
