John 14:12-14
As the Good Shepherd celebrates the passover with His disciples, the upper room celebration turns into soul care. Jesus has much to say to His disciples concerning the must-ness of His departure, BUT ALSO of the great comfort and benefits that will come as a result of Him “going to the Father. Speaking with the language of promise, Jesus reveals one of these comforting benefits—the hell quaking promise of answered prayer. The promise is staggering, for—“whoever believes in me,” says Jesus, will not only “do even greater works” than me, but also “whatever you ask in my name, this I will do.” Main Idea—The missionary mindset is empowered by the hell quaking promise of answered prayer.
