Islamic State is here, all around us. There is no defence. Only attack.
On the Syria/Iraq border, a British hostage is beheaded by IS terrorists. When the executioner breaks down, he is led into a nearby tent, where a masked figure is waiting for him. This mysterious person is treated with a mixture of respect and terror. They call him the Caliph.
In Nigeria the British Ambassador and his young aide are kidnapped. A four-person SAS team is deployed to find him. The team includes Danny Black and Caitlin Wallace - an expert on West Africa. In Nigeria the team find devastation, and when they discover prisoners infected with the plague they realise they have uncovered a combined Boko Harem/IS plot to unleash a bio-terrorist attack.
The team must stop the terrorists and identify the Caliph before the deadly disease is released much closer to home.

Well Worth the Wait
'High-adrenaline' is an over-used phrase when it comes to special forces novels, but in this case it is more than justified. I was pacing around the house biting my finger nails as I listened to the climax of Hellfire. I don't want to spoil it for you, but suffice to say there is plenty of cool action, great locations, unexpected twists and enjoyable friction between characters - just as we've come to expect from the Danny Black series.
Oh Woe, what a mistake
No editor touched this book, repetitions, mistakes; arrive on a motorbike and leave in a car. The there is the breathy lip smacking narration. Awful, just awful. Needn't have been either. Such a mistake in such an amateurish way.
Ok
Decent enough story. Narrator is poor. Quite a good trilogy overall. Easy going when in the car.
Another great Chris Ryan story.
No one writes better thrillers than Chris Ryan. Brilliant from start to finish.
This has to be one of his best SAS books yet. 5 star.
Gripping!
I needed something to listen to whilst up late at night trying to persuade babies that they really wanted to be in their own beds. So good that afterwards I was kept awake as I followed the story long after the little one was back in bed! My only gripe is that it was over too soon.
