Bisexuals are more at risk for mental health problems than our straight, lesbian, and gay peers. Whatever your baseline was before the pandemic, it’s probable that your struggles are feeling a bit worse. In this episode, Annie and Rose spoke with Dr. Mimi Hoang, a nationally-recognized, bi-affirming psychologist, educator, author, and grassroots activist specializing in the LGBTQ+ and Asian Pacific Islander (API) communities. Dr. Mimi tells us about how to deal with isolation during quarantine, finding a therapist, and supporting those experiencing racial trauma.

Hello Good Bi's full statement:
The bisexual community would be nowhere without our Black leaders, who since the inception of the LGBT rights movement have fought for our justice and equality, to live and love in peace. The police, who for their entire existence, have murdered Black people without consequence, protect and serve only themselves and white supremacy as an institution. The system that puts police in a position to murder Black people is not broken. It was intentionally designed to reinforce white supremacist power structures, and it must be dismantled. Additionally, Black transgender people face disproportionate rates of fatal violence, which often go unnoticed by media and unprosecuted by law enforcement. We want to be extremely clear: Black lives matter, Black trans lives matter.
Because identity, trauma, and grief are often discussed on this show, and because we so often advocate for communication as a healthy method for expressing emotions, we wanted to open our airwaves to Black members of the LBGTQ community, to say what you need to say in this moment. If you have something to say to us and/or the bisexual community that listens to this show, send an MP3 or wav audio file to [email protected].
Stay strong and safe.
There’s nothing hotter than talking about research and data! Annie and Rose get steamy and talk about how attraction is measured, how it’s funded, and why it matters. Spoiler alert: the data that exists about bisexual people might impact you more than you think. Did we miss something or you want to compliment us? Write to us at [email protected] or on Instagram @HelloGoodBis.
