Last week’s ruling by the Supreme Court that the legal definition of ‘woman’ is based on biological sex has left trans people angry and distressed. This decision is something that they feel strikes at the very core of who they are, so it’s no surprise that this weekend has seen rallies and actions in support of trans people, across the country … including in Shropshire.
Saturday afternoon saw a large group of trans people, their families, friends and allies gathering at the bandstand in Telford Town Park for a Trans Solidarity Meet-Up, organised by the Shropshire Trans Advocacy Group.
Hello You the Shropshire podcast is about bringing you the voices, stories and sounds that you won’t hear anywhere else. It’s also about having intelligent, progressive conversations driven by a strong sense of social justice … as well as talking about history and heritage, faith and belief, culture and the arts, mental health and wellbeing, the complexities of life and - for example - being extracted from your own wedding reception when your stepfather starts a fight with the band’s bass player.
So I went along to enable you to meet the people taking part … and here they are.
This episode of Hello You the Shropshire podcast, recorded as the meet-up took place, brings you trans people from Shropshire and surrounding counties sharing their feelings, fears, stories and lives in their own words and their own voices.
