Jamie Rockymore-Bess is the Founder of Helpful Living Magazine, a mental health magazine that educates readers about mental health/wellness. She recently launched the 4th issue focusing on social injustice and the coronavirus. Her goal for Helpful Living Magazine is to provide education to individuals as her ultimate goal is to be a part of ending the stigma on mental illness. Spotlight
Dr. Antoinette "Bonnie" Candia-Bailey served as Lincoln University's Vice President of Student Affairs. She died by suicide on January 8, 2024 at the age of 49. 

Resource
The Maryland Addictions and Behavioral Health Professionals Certification Board (MABPCB) oversees the process of becoming a certified peer support specialist in Maryland.  The Board provides a detailed overview including mandatory trainings, education requirements, employment opportunities and much more. 

If you are outside the state of Maryland, please search peer support/peer recovery in your state. Most states will have their own process if you are interested in becoming a peer.  Community Changemaker

T-Kea and Jordan are joined by Mark Harrison to discuss the importance of recognizing and supporting the mental health of Black men and boys. Mark is a clinical mental health counselor, mental health advocate, and Army veteran who survived two suicide attempts. 

Spotlight
Charles Johnson, former NFL wide receiver, died by suicide on July 17, 2022 at the age of 50. Charles played for the Steelers, Eagles, Patriots, and Bills before retiring. He was the Assistant Athletic Director at Heritage High School in Wake Forest, NC at the time of his passing.

Chris Vaughn died by suicide in 2021 after struggling with PTSD. The following year, his mother, Deneen Vaughn, and brother, Cameron Vaughn, founded the Mind and Wellness Foundation in Chris’ honor. The Black Women’s Mental Health Institute is a national nonprofit organization dedicated to building awareness of and support for the mental and holistic wellbeing of Black women and girls. BWMHI’s No More Martyrs Sisterhood Support Collective is an online community of support for Black women and girls managing mental health concerns. Community Changemaker
Hydeia Broadbent was a prominent HIV/AIDS activist who gained media attention for being a part of America’s “first generation of children born HIV positive.” Hydeia’s mission was to use her life “as a prevention tool for those who are HIV negative to make informed decisions to stay HIV negative, and also for those living with HIV/AIDS to find hope and inspiration to not allow HIV or AIDS to hold them back from living their best life”. Hydeia passed away on February 20, 2024 at the age of 39.
