How do you START OVER again? After losing her dad and her job within weeks, today's guest Brenda Cortez starts over again. Starting Over for Brenda is stretching herself as an author, entrepreneur and making a difference with her connections and saving lives.

Brenda now has 10 publications and was inspired to write her first book, “My Mom is Having Surgery”, after her daughter centered her college entrance essay around her kidney donation and the inspiration she felt from it. This incredible woman is such a strong advocate for living donation awareness. Because of this advocacy and her passion for helping others, Brenda came up with the slogan, HOWL: Help Others with Love. Howl the Owl has traveled the world and continues to bring smiles to living donors and their families.

Help Others with Love is what keeps Brenda inspired and motivated to do all she does. As unpredictable things in life happen, you can either give up or keep going. After the loss of her dad and job, Brenda knew she had a purpose and to keep going, she was reminded to let go and let God.

Her purpose was not only to share her story, but create a compilation of twenty-five incredible donor and/or recipient stories “Because of Organ Donations” which became her 10th publication and continues to Help Others with Love. These stories will inspire and change your life and awareness of what it truly means to be a living donor.

Brenda has written nine children's books; “My Mom is Having Surgery,” “Howl Gets a Heart,” “Howl Helps Bella,” “Howl Helps Others,” “Howl Learns About Kidneys & Dialysis,” “Howl Goes to the Races,” “Howl Loves his new Liver,” “Howl Competes at the Transplant Games” and Howl Inspires Mr. Ynott.”

Connections are important for Brenda, as a writer and as a way to Help Others with Love.  When writing “Howl Goes to the Races” she paired up with Joey Gase, a race car driver in the NASCAR Xfinity and Monster Energy NASCAR Cup Series, who’s mom gave the gift of life as an organ donor, and is the reason behind Joey’s passion to honor and help those affected by organ donation.
