Without enough sleep, your brain and body systems won't function normally. It can also dramatically lower your quality of life. A review of studies in 2010 found that sleeping too little at night increases the risk of early death.
The inability to get to sleep or sleep well at night, can be caused by stress, jet lag, a health condition, the medications you take, taking work home often, too much screen time or even the amount of coffee you drink.
Everyone's experienced the fatigue, short temper and lack of focus that often follow a poor night's sleep.
An occasional night without sleep makes you feel tired and irritable the next day, but it won't harm your health.
After several sleepless nights, the mental effects become more serious. Your brain will fog, making it difficult to concentrate and make decisions. You'll start to feel down, and may fall asleep during the day. Your risk of injury and accidents at home, work and on the road also increases.
OK, so that's what happens when you don;t sleep and what may cause sleep issues.....so how do you fix that? How do you sleep better?
I've had sleep issues in my life and only feel like I got on top of them in the last few years (maybe I'm just exhausted from kid life)
While everyone is different what helped me was breathing exercises (aka meditation) while I was trying to get to sleep.
So much so that last year I made my own sleep meditation. It only goes for about 5 minutes, but if you're having any sleep issues then it may help you relax in bed.
Often I'll be asleep before the meditation finishes, but even if I'm not I'm usually well on my way to sleep.
If you're having sleep issues you need to find what works for you. As such I'm sharing my sleep meditation with you now......sweet dreams from Daddy Eats Last.
