• History of distillery
  • Henry McKenna immigrated from Ireland in 1838 and owned a flour mill in Fairfield KY
  • Needing something to do with the Waste from the mill, in 1855 Started a distillery making less than a barrel a day
  • 1865, hired Patrick Sweeny, another Irish immigrant to be his distiller, raised production to more than a barrel a day
  • 1881 Opened “the Old blue house” on market street in Louisville as a sales office
  • By 1883, they built a new distillery in Fairfield KY, to support their 3 Barrell day capacity
• McKenna Facts
  • Refused to sell anything under 5 years old
  • 1892 the “McKenna Bill” was put before congress to establish a 5 year bonding act
    • 1897 was when the bottled in Bond act passed
  • Was a stickler for Sanitation, adding a washing and scrubbing step to the normal Lime Whitewash 
  • 1893, Henry McKenna Passed away
    • Sons Daniel and James took over the business, as manager of distilling and as marketing and distribution respectively
  • To this day, they only produce 9 barrels a day at the direction of the family, and only produce for 9 months out of the year.
    • Henry believed that summer was bad for fermentation so production stops in the summer
