We discuss the work of Herbert Marcuse, pre-eminent German-American political philosopher, theorist, and scholar/activist of the 20th century, whose work made important contributions to our understanding of advanced capitalist societies.  His work continues to contribute valuable insights into the problems these societies continue to face today, and can help point the way forward in a time of worsening climate crisis, inequality, poverty, racism, war, threats to democracy, and the worsening dangers of the use of nuclear weapons.
