This device is the fastest-selling technological advance in world history, changing the way human beings communicate and do a lot of their daily business.  All of which makes especially pertinent the question asked by Queens College scholar Richard Maxwell in his new book How Green Is Your Smartphone?  Are cellphones safe to use?  And are they safe to throw away when you buy a new one?
