Syria has long been a chessboard on which outsiders have inflicted or abetted widespread human suffering.   In Idlib province in northwest Syria, Russia is redefining its partnership with Turkey, to hand over more territory to Syrian President Bashar al-Assad. Journalist, author Charles Glass, says another Syrian partnership is being re-defined -- between Turkey and the United States, the Kurdish-majority areas of the northeastern quarter of the country.
