Some reality-testing of President Donald Trump’s recently announced plans for Afghanistan and Pakistan. Military analyst Matthew Hoh, who served with the Marines in Iraq and worked for the State Department in both Iraq and Afghanistan, says, too often America's diplomatic and military efforts in Afghanistan, like the Obama-era "surge,"  were ill-conceived and worse-executed.   He predicts, the projected Trump escalation will only produce more disappointment, death and destruction and not, as the President claims, "victory."
